A crisis can happen any time, any place. But if the communications aspect is not properly managed, what might have been a temporary set-back can be permanent. Fischer Hellmann works with companies to develop an action plan and prepare executives to implement that plan so the company's reputation and image
remain in tact. We also counsel and train clients in proactive communications strategies to pre-empt and minimize negative events.
Fischer Hellmann's Crisis programs are based on the following system:
- Anticipate and analyze potential crisis situations
- Identify publics who are affected or may affect the crisis
- Establish guidelines to manage the flow of events
- Select and train members of "Crisis Team"
Most crisis management programs require research into past industry or company crises, a preparedness audit, and the creation of inter-departmental task forces with non-communications personnel.
A step-by-step crisis manual is produced that designates appropriate spokespersons, details who does what when, and contains other basic information for executives who are involved.
Fischer Hellmann then develops scenarios and simulations that test the crisis manual with crisis team members. Participants in these simulations evaluate the situation,
then
practice strategic communications tools. These tools might range from a letter to employees, mass e-mails, a press conference, legislative testimony, as well as media interviews and appearances.
Some of the elements described in Media Training, such as pre-produced videotapes, and journalist appearances,
can also be used in Crisis programs.
